A brush fire on the west side of Shawankgunk Ridge closed Route 44/55 on Thursday afternoon. The fire started inside the Minnewaska State Park's boundaries in the Town of Rochester. No cause has been determined.
On Saturday, more than 250 state and local firefighters — from Accord, Kerhonkson, Napanoch, Ellenville, Grahamsville, Olive, Kripplebush, High Falls, Stone Ridge, Hurley, Walker Valley and Gardiner — continue to contain the fire covering about 2,000 acres of Minnewaska State Park Preserve. State police and National Guard helicopters are dropping water on the fire. No structures are threatened, and there have been no injuries.
